Today, the Wisconsin legislature will meet for an informational session regarding the “Bible-studies ban” controversy at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where a resident assistant was recently forbidden from hosting Bible studies in his dorm room, in accordance with a school policy that prohibits RAs from leading religious activities in order to ensure that all students feel comfortable approaching them. The meeting, which is allowing speakers by invitation only, is being protested by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation for excluding the views of those who think the ban is a good idea. The RA in question, Lance Steiger, has a lawsuit pending against the school, which was filed with the assistance of the Alliance Defense Fund, a Christian legal group well-known for taking up culture war causes, although the school has suspended its policy against RA Bible studies indefinitely.
