A short month and a half after reports that atheists were poised to take over the world — err, a mid-sized cafeteria — comes the news that atheism is on the verge of extinction. Again! According to a UPI report cherry-picked by The Washinton Times, “Godlessness is in trouble,” because it’s “losing its scientific underpinnings,” and because of “the acts of inhumanity and lunacy committed in its name.” Well, there you have it. Because there’s certainly no other belief system you could say that about. And besides, UPI cites three people, and a theologian, a Christian scholar with a book to sell, and a atheist philosopher whose comments have been taken out of context can’t be wrong.
