An Onion-esque Ekklesia headline, “Tabloids royally shocked by Christian belief in repentance,” responds to the car crash of scandal-mongering and theology that occurred last week as British tabloids partially digested the news that Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles would recite a traditional prayer of penitence from the Book of Common Prayer as a part of their marriage blessing ceremony, and regurgitated it with front page spreads depicting the couple as red horned sinners forced into a public apology. According to a Church commentator, the level of “fuss” about the prayer was amazing. “‘When people enquired they were informed about the form of words that would be used, but apparently it came as a massive shock to some journalists that Christians regularly confess their sins and that it would be entirely inappropriate to decline to do so just because the people involved are connected with the Royal Family.'”
