Elissa Lerner: It’s been a rough week for the Catholic Church. Here’s a quick roundup: on March 4, the AP broke the story about the resurgence of child abuse by priests in German high schools, which was then criticized as “a wall of silence.” March 5, a senior aide to the Pope and a Vatican chorister were removed from their posts due to allegations of involvement in a homosexual prostitution ring. Today, across the Atlantic, a Catholic school in Boulder, Colorado is preventing re-enrollment of a student because of her lesbian mothers. Bad timing on that last one though: state senator (and Catholic) Roy Ashburn (R-CA), an outspoken opponent of gay rights is now, well, just out.
