The San Antonio Express-News experiments with a new strategy for overthrowing the country’s secular overlords: make atheists look like a pack of sad lonely hearts who weren’t invited to the believers’ ball. In one of the saddest ten-second sketches of religious conferences we’ve seen, the Express-News reports that the American Atheists didn’t mean to step on any Christian toes by holding its annual convention over Easter weekend, but, according to the group’s spokesman, was only trying to take advantage of off-peak rates on hotels and airfare. And besides, “‘atheists have nothing else to do on Easter,'” apparently, than gather to hear speakers tell them that “‘we non-believers are the most despised group in America.'” That’s a bleak picture even for those who don’t consider Chinese food on Christmas sad.
