Intelligent Design earns another foe, this time from a less-obvious place. Fr. George Coyne, director of the Vatican Observatory and astronomical research and educational division of the Church, has dismissed Intelligent Design for dismissing God — for trying so hard to secularize the key concept of a “designer,” so that it doesn’t come across as religion, that the notion of religious creation, and a specifically Judeo-Christian Creator-God, is “belittled” and made “insignificant.”
