In honor of Valentine’s Day, Saudi Arabia’s morality police have once again banned flower shops from selling red roses and red cards — on pain of imprisonment — to deter the celebration of a holiday they consider at odds with Wahhabi doctrine. The ban has created an underground market in roses though, because as one florist explained, “‘It’s the Saudi women who want these roses anyway.'”
