The Editor shares various ways to support The Revealer

Dear Revealer readers,

I am always thrilled when someone tells me how much they appreciate The Revealer. In recent months, some of those conversations have also come with a question: How can people support The Revealer’s work? That inquiry often stems from people’s concerns about the attacks on journalism in the United States, and an awareness that the current administration has targeted both journalists and higher education, especially over topics related to race, sexuality, and gender—topics we cover regularly. And so, I would like to share with you five easy ways that you can support our work at The Revealer.

1) Make a donation to the Center for Religion and Media at NYU, The Revealer’s publisher. Your tax-deductible gift will go toward paying our writers and supporting their research. We pride ourselves on paying everyone who writes for The Revealer. Their work matters greatly and we believe they should be compensated accordingly. Your donation will help our writers craft important articles about pressing issues facing the world.

2) Rate and review The Revealer podcast. If you have enjoyed The Revealer podcast, please give us a rating and/or a review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. The ratings and reviews influence algorithms and help more people find our podcast.

3) Share our articles or podcast episodes on social media. And, if you aren’t already, you can follow The Revealer on Facebook, Instagram, and Bluesky.

4) Subscribe (it is free) to The Revealer. As a subscriber, you will receive one email a month when we publish each new issue of The Revealer.

5) Keep reading our articles and listening to our podcast.

On that point, I’m delighted to share that we have a brand-new batch of articles and a podcast episode for you to enjoy. The Revealer’s March issue opens with Mary-Jane Rubenstein’s “Cosmic Consecration, Cosmic Desecration: The Curious Case of Space Burials,” where she explores why NASA is allowing corporations to deposit cremated human remains on the moon and why the Navajo nation has expressed concerns about such missions. Then, in “Death Doulas and the Gospel of Green Burials,” Leslie Williams investigates the growing interreligious movement of people who are turning to death doulas rather than traditional funeral homes to make end-of-life decisions. After that, in “Persian Wine, Made with Swedish Spirit,” Ken Chitwood explores how the long history of Iranian wine, prohibited since the revolution in 1979, is making a comeback and what that means as Iranians protest for change today. Then, in “The Rise of the Catholic Priest-Influencer,” Emma Cieslik examines how rightwing priests are developing a significant social media presence and pushing their followers to the political far-right. After that, in “Smoke Signals from the Church Stoop,” Marquisha Scott reflects on what happens to historic Black churches when neighborhoods face gentrification and fewer people find themselves wanting to attend weekly church services. And, in “A Relapse of International Relations into Barbarism over Gaza,” an excerpt from Gaza Catastrophe: The Genocide in World-Historical Perspective, Gilbert Achcar considers how the West has failed to live up to its post-WWII promises when it comes to protecting the human rights of Palestinians, a failure with devastating consequences.

The March issue also includes the newest episode of The Revealer podcast: “Understanding Gaza.” Gilbert Achcar joins us to discuss what life was like in Gaza before October 7, 2023, what it has been like since the ceasefire at the end of 2025, what Gazans think of Hamas, how the situation in Gaza has global implications, and what needs to happen in Gaza, in Israel, and around the world to greatly improve life for Palestinians today. You can listen to this episode on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

As we think about all of the pressing matters facing us today—democracy in the United States, the U.S. and Israel-led attacks on Iran, the precarious ceasefire in Gaza—we remain committed to providing you with top-quality content about religion throughout the world. And we would be delighted if you would like to support our work in whatever ways you find feasible.

The important work continues.

Yours,
Brett Krutzsch, Ph.D.
