We're looking for a research fellow for the Fall 2012-2013 academic year.
Research Fellow – International Digital Religion
The Center for Religion and Media, New York University
The Center for Religion and Media at New York University seeks a Research Fellow for the Fall 2012-Spring 2013 academic year. The candidate should be a published journalist with demonstrable experience writing about international issues of media and religion and will work with the site’s editor to investigate and generate innovative content that advances analysis of religion and media in non-domestic arenas. The fellow is appointed as part of CRMʼs Luce initiative, “Digital Religion: Knowledge, Politics and Practice in a Transforming International World.” For more information on this project, visit our site at http://www.crmnyu.org/projects/digital-religion-knowledge-politics-and-practice/. The fellow will solicit articles from leading journalists, academics and activists in the field and they will initiate investigative series that complement and document The Center’s public programming.
Two-thirds of the fellow’s time will be devoted to generating both daily and weekly content for In the World, which is published on therevealer.org. One third will be used for independent research of their own in an area within the Center’s Luce initiative, toward a book project or yielding a series of articles for outside print/digital media.
The position provides a unique opportunity for a journalist to work with other leading journalists and academics in the New York and NYU community and in the broader fields of journalism, religious studies, anthropology and cinema studies.
The fellow’s responsibilities include:
Participating in the daily operations of In the World, the international channel of The Revealer, under the editorʼs supervision, including: soliciting articles from leading journalists, generating and assigning new story ideas; editing and posting incoming articles; monitoring the site’s comments; contributing to and attending center events, possibly generating complementary coverage. Overseeing interns or editorial assistants when necessary.
Formulating and completing an independent project that results in a series of outside articles, book, or event at The Center.
The position runs from October 1, 2012 to September 30, 2013. The Fellow will be provided with an office at The Center for Religion and Media, full access to the Center’s resources and NYU’s library, and a salary of $40,000 (plus benefits). No housing is provided. Applications should be sent to editor@therevealer.org and must include a cover letter, CV, and project proposal of 500 words. Applications are due August 15.
