Today begins the three day public conference of New York University’s Center for Religion and Media, the institution at which The Revealer is published. It’s a stunning line-up that anyone with proximity to New York and some time will want to attend. Here’s a program of the events, which will take place at Kimmel Center on the south side of Washington Square Park. The public is welcome.

Highlights for regular Revealer readers include presentations by several Revealer contributing writers:Adam H. Becker and Elizabeth A. Castelli will be among the discussants on a panel titled “Other Holy Lands, Other Experiences,” from 3-5 today; that panel will follow up on “The Temple that Won’t Quit: Constructing Sacred Space in Orlando’s Holy Land,” a talk by Joan Branham on thebizarre Florida theme park that seeks to recreate Biblical times.

Stewart M. Hoover, who recently wrote for The Revealer about “South Park,” will be delivering a keynote address on “Media, Meaning, and Religion” from 5:30-7:00 pm.

Jeff Sharlet, editor of The Revealer, and Jay Rosen, its publisher, will be talking about its future from 12:45 to 1:45 on Friday.

Brian Larkin, who wrote about Nigeria for The Revealer, will be talking about the rise of Islamic Pentecostalism on a panel from 2-4:30 pm, Friday.

Leshu Torchin, a frequent commentator on The Revealer, will be speaking at a panel on “Technologies of Witnessing,” 1:30-3:30, Saturday.

Ann Pellegrini, whom we’ve written about before, will be moderating a panel on “Circuits of Suffering,” 4-6 pm, Saturday.

And those are just the participants whose work you’ve read here. Barbara Abrash, Faye Ginsburg, and Angelo Zito, instrumental in the creation of The Revealer, will be moderating and discussing and talking throughout the three days, and they’ll be joined by a host of other smart folks to talk about and explore the relationships of religion and media in all their manifestations.
