Jeff Sharlet: I’ve a review of Frank Schaeffer’s fascinating new book, Crazy for God: How I Grew Up As One of the Elect, Helped Found the Religious Right and Lived to Take All (or Almost All) of It Back, in the British New Statesman., Schaeffer is the son of the late Francis Schaeffer, a guru of the modern Christian Right — and, we learn in the book, a tragic figure who cared more about art, loud music, and bohemian living than the crusade to which his books contributed.
